Thyroid Care

Thyroid disorders refer to conditions that affect the thyroid gland. This gland is a small, butterfly-shaped gland located at the neck's front. The thyroid plays an important role in regulating many metabolic processes throughout the body. There are many thyroid disorders that can affect its structure and function.

To produce essential hormones, the thyroid uses iodine. Thyroxine (also known as T4) is the primary hormone that the gland produces. A small amount of T4 is released via the bloodstream into the body's tissues. This is then converted to triiodothyronine, the most active hormone.

The thyroid gland is controlled by both the hypothalamus and pituitary gland. Thyroid problems can be caused by disorders of these tissues. Thyroid disorders can be classified into:

Hypothyroidism

Hyperthyroidism

Goiter

Thyroid nodules

Thyroid cancer
